After playing good volleyball last week but having no wins to show for it, the Spring Garden Panthers finally broke into the win column Monday evening at Crossville. The Panthers shut out the Class 4A Lions 3-0, winning the 3-of-5 match 25-20, 25-16 and 25-14.

Three wins and one loss in pool play Saturday put Piedmont in a three-way tie with Class 6A Homewood and 4A Alabama Christian for first in its pool at the Capitol City Jubilee tournament in Montgomery. On tiebreakers, the Bulldogs finished second, behind Homewood and ahead of ACA. Homewood had defeated Piedmont 25-13, 25-21 before the Bulldogs downed Alabama Christian 25-17, 25-22. ACA swept past Homewood 2-0 to hand the Patriots their only pool loss.
