Piedmont volleyball team continues strong start
The early momentum Piedmont gained at the Capitol City Jubilee volleyball tournament carried over into its first regular season matches. On Tuesday of last week, the Bulldogs accomplished a first during Grace Strott’s tenure as coach, defeating Jacksonville 9-25, 29-27, 15-12 in a tri-match at Pleasant Valley. Piedmont then fell to Pleasant Valley 25-19, 25-20. Jacksonville defeated the Raiders.

‘Different’ Dogs subdue Eagles
It was billed as a clash between Hokes Bluff’s power running attack and Piedmont’s spread offense. In the end, the team with the power running won the game – but it was the Piedmont Bulldogs who captured a 29-6 victory at Piedmont. About six minutes of the contest were played Friday before lightning forced postponement until Saturday evening.

Three wins and one loss in pool play Saturday put Piedmont in a three-way tie with Class 6A Homewood and 4A Alabama Christian for first in its pool at the Capitol City Jubilee tournament in Montgomery. On tiebreakers, the Bulldogs finished second, behind Homewood and ahead of ACA. Homewood had defeated Piedmont 25-13, 25-21 before the Bulldogs downed Alabama Christian 25-17, 25-22. ACA swept past Homewood 2-0 to hand the Patriots their only pool loss.
